Job Interview Points
April 15, 2009T
hrough my own experiences and reading articles these past two years, here are a few tips when you go on a job interview, that will help you stand out over others and possibly get you hired (though these are trying times no matter what.)
First hand I can honestly say, do NOT mention your hardships, financial woes and any other unfortunate mishaps you are going through in this crappy economy. Rather, be positive, for instance I mention how I educated myself with tutorials online to help with my career or accounting knowledge.
1. Many interviewers in recent times have asked about the economy and situations we face here in Florida, I mention the great times and crack a joke or two about the bad times, and go into a different subject. This lightens the situation and they even laugh or contribute a story themselves.
2. Do not show up earlier then 10 minutes before your interview. Chances are they have that time booked and with so many people out of work, they probably have many back to back.
3. Lastly, I found that when I did not seem desperate or aggressive, many asked for a second interview. One company offered me a job, when I had one already. I wasn’t desperate. As hard as it sounds, be self assured and remain calm and professional. They seem to like this trait and this may get you a possible second interview.
